NUMBER BASES
Number Bases – Summary Number bases refer to the different ways numbers can be represented using different counting systems. The base of a number system tells us how many digits or symbols are used in that system. The decimal system (base 10) is what we use every day, with digits 0–9. Other bases include: Binary (base 2) – uses digits 0 and 1 Octal (base 8) – uses digits 0 to 7 Hexadecimal (base 16) – uses digits 0–9 and letters A–F 💡 Key Concepts: Conversion between bases (e.g., from base 2 to base 10) Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in different bases Solving equations and problems involving number bases Application of number bases in computer science (especially binary) 🧠 Why It Matters: Understanding number bases helps in logical thinking and is foundational for computer-related topics and digital systems, making it a vital topic in both JAMB exams and future studies
